In a skin graft, a piece of damaged skin tissue is replaced by a part of the body’s ‘healthy skin’. This happens for surgical wounds that are difficult to heal, closing surgical wounds (for example skin or breast cancer), burns and chronic wounds.
The damaged skin tissue is then removed and a replacement healthy area of skin is applied to replace it. We call this new piece of skin ” donor skin ” and it will grow back to the skin.
Hair growth from donor skin
If the donor skin has grown nicely and the surrounding skin has healed, it may be that hair growth may develop from the donor skin. It is possible that this is in an unwanted place on the body. These hairs can be removed by lasering or electrical epilation at one of the affiliated practices .
